The next monthly public board meeting will be taking place next week Tuesday, June 12th at 6pm. The meeting will be held in the Laupahoehoe School band room.
This is a great place to come inform yourself about the latest news and progress of the conversion, and ask questions pertaining to it.
As always, the LCPCS calendar of events can be found on the charter schools website, or via the link below:
I was wondering about the new staff at the charter school. Do the teachers they hired hold Hawaii licenses in the field they will be teaching? Are they highly qualified in those fields? How many are local, and how many are from the mainland? I was curious because I read an article, but there weren't very many details.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking into this question, this is what I was able to find out: All of the teaching positions advertised were calling for "Highly Qualified Teachers" and therefore, the hiring committee selected and interviewed only these highly qualified applicants with teaching certification. In addition to being put through thorough reference checks and interviews, all of the new teachers on board so far hold Masters degrees in Education. It sounds like there are a good mix of teachers being hired from the local community, as well as from neighboring communities.
DeleteThey are not able to release any specific information about individual applicants at this time as not all positions have been filled, but the board recognizes that everyone is anxious to find out who will be teaching at the school.
There should be an official release about the new hires as soon as hiring has completed. But in the mean time, mark Saturday July 14 in your calendars! There is going to be a Teacher and Staff "Meet and Greet" happening on the 14th at the school cafeteria. And... there will be FREE SHAVE ICE! Spread the word.
